For students and parents who constantly hear about the importance of standardized tests, it can be hard to find the right balance between valuing the importance of a good score versus valuing the importance of a good education.

One primary school in the U.K. recently decided to assure its students that there’s more life than just tests – and the letter it sent to each student is now going viral. According to Today.com, the letter written by the head teacher at assistant head teacher at Barrowford Primary School was sent in response to the results of Britain’s KS2 exam, “which tests students’ math, reading, spelling, punctuation and grammar abilities.”

“These tests do not always assess all of what it is that make each of you special and unique,” school administrators wrote. “The people who create these tests and score them do not know each of you the way your teachers do, the way I hope to and certainly not the way your families do.”

“So enjoy your test results and be very proud of these, but remember there are many ways of being smart,” the letter concludes.
