The Grand Central Oyster Frenzy: Shuck off on Saturday

Grand Central Oyster Bar & Restaurant knows its oysters. The famed establishment has been serving up the tasty bivalves since 1913. But it’s only in the last decade that it’s thrown such a party around the tasty treats with the Annual Grand Central Oyster Frenzy happening this Saturday for the ninth annual time.

“It’s a carnival atmosphere,” says Oyster Bar’s executive chef, Sandy Ingber (aka: “The Bishop of Bi-valves”). “Everything is surrounded around the shucking contest.”

This year’s shucking contest features the best pros vying for the $3,000 grand prize and will include five-time champion (and Oyster Bar staffer)?Luis “The Mexican Menace” Iglesius defending his title.

Guests will enjoy chef demonstrations and tastings, the “slurp-off” eating competition, 16 varieties of oysters and an assortment of wines and beers. Admission is free, with food and drinks priced a la carte.
