USMNT goalkeeper Tim Howard turned millions of Americans into soccer fans this month with his performance at the World Cup. It turns out that the 35-year-old Howard predicted his historic performance while he was still a high school senior in New Jersey in 1997. A user on Reddit uploaded a photo of Howard’s North Brunswick High School yearbook page late last week. The goalie’s quote: “It will take a nation of millions to hold me back.”
Howard isn’t the only celebrity to hint about their ambitions in their high school yearbooks. “Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage, who graduated from New Jersey’s Delbarton School in 1987, chose a quotation from playwright and fellow actor Sam Shepard. “Words are tools of imagery in motion,” Dinklage quoted Shepard as saying.
The Bronx’s own Sonia Sotomayor fully embraced her social justice leanings when she chose a Norman Thomas quote for Princeton University’s yearbook. “I am not a champion of lost causes, but of causes not yet won,” is what the current Supreme Court justice chose back in 1976.
