Tips to get rid of holiday stains

Holiday parties are dangerous. Not only because of the potential to hook up with a coworker, but someone is inevitably going to get drunk or trip and that person (most of the time it’s you) will be most likely be drinking red wine. It’s for that very reason entertaining maven, Martha Stewart wont serve red wine at her house parties. But you’re way more laid back than that. To help with your wine soaked carpet, new blouse with gravy blotches and other pesky holiday stains that pop up around the same time the tree does, Whirlpool offers these tips.

Red Wine
— Rinse in cold water to dilute the stain and prevent it from setting.
— Wash in warmest water safe for the garment.
— If necessary, follow up with a wash in color-safe bleach for colors or liquid chlorine bleach for whites.
— Air dry

Butter/Cooking Oil
— Rub liquid detergent into the stain and allow to work for up to 30 minutes.
— Wash in hottest water safe for the fabric.
— Air dry

Dirt
— Allow to dry, and brush off excess dirt from carpet
— Rub liquid detergent into the stain and allow to work for up to 30 minutes
— Wash in hottest water safe for the fabric on a heavy soil or timer setting
— Air dry

Makeup
— Rub liquid detergent into the stain and allow to work for up to 30 minutes
— Wash in hottest water safe for the garment
—Air dry
