What you missed over the Fourth of July

Enough patriotism, already! Let’s get back to the good stuff — the best pop culture news that happened over the Fourth of July weekend.

The box office is only for the young. What an opening! “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” smashed domestic box office records over a six-day opening, pulling in a whopping $181.1 million. Per the Associated Press, the film also added $217 million overseas, bringing its worldwide total to nearly $400 million. Sadly, Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts” new movie, “Larry Crowe,” didn’t get one sliver of that audience — it opened with a meager $15.7 million. And, seventy-one percent of audience members were over the age of 50, per CinemaScore. “My goodness, there are bristlecone pines younger than this movie,” a rival studio exec said to MSNBC. Ouch.

Vinny Guadagnino gets evicted? Just what happened over the Fourth of July weekend to make Vinny Guadagnino leave the “Jersey Shore” beach house, which is now back in Seaside Heights, N.J., and filming their fifth season? According to Us Weekly, Vinny was seen last Wednesday hopping into a taxi in the middle of the night with his bags packed, checking into a hotel, and returning the next morning. Now TMZ says he has left “for good” and is at his family’s home in Staten Island. Sources tell TMZ that Vinny was feeling “burned out” and “homesick.”

Kate Moss gets married. In what many are calling a “controversial gown” (due to the designer, the maligned John Galliano, not the slip dress itself), model Kate Moss married Kills guitarist Jamie Hince at her Cotswolds estate on Friday, July 1st, in a Galliano-designed gown. The dress was inspired by Zelda Fitzgerald, whose engagement ring Moss is wearing, according to Women’s Wear Daily. Hince was decked out in a pale blue double-breasted Yves Saint Laurent suit, which looks like it was inspired by “Saturday Night Fever”-era John Travolta.

Paris Hilton moves on. Following her break-up with Cy Watts two weeks ago, Paris Hilton was seen locking lips with hot-shot director Todd Phillips, the master-mind behind “The Hangover” and “The Hangover 2.” TMZ has pics of the two smooching Thursday night inside Beacher’s Madhouse at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. And the love-fest reportedly continued to Friday, where the two “only had eyes for each other” while at Paris’ pre-Fourth of July party.
