A 12-year-old boy died Thursday morning after he was struck by a van at a busy intersection in Allston, Boston police said.

The accident happened around 6:45 a.m. outside 460 Cambridge St., near the intersection with North Beacon Street and Brighton Avenue. The victim, who has not been named, was reportedly trying to cross the street when he was hit.

Emergency officials said the boy was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton with significant head injuries. He later died at the hospital.

The van that allegedly struck the victim was registered to Aegis Energy Services of Holyoke, according to WBZ-TV. A WBZ reporter spoke with a manager at that company, who said the driver told him: “A kid ran in front of my van.”

The crash took place about two blocks from the Jackson Mann School, which serves kindergarten through eighth grade students, but there was no confirmation that the victim was a student there.
