Allston underground music venue shut down

Abutting railroad tracks, the back entrance to 12 Wadsworth St. in Allston is littered with cigarette butts and flattened boxes from DJ equipment.

“It’s kind of hard to tell,” said a neighbor who didn’t realize the so-called Wadzilla Mansion was operating as an illegal music venue for the last year. “This place is like a zoo, kids are partying. I could easily see how they could operate without anyone knowing.

“If you’re ever here on a nice weekend it’s like Mardi Gras.”

Earlier this week the city notified the landlord that operating a live entertainment venue carried a $1,000 penalty and/or imprisonment up to a year. The tenants, six, 20-something musicians, have 30 days to obtain the proper permits.

“We kept it low key, we never had any neighbors complain, we’ve never been broken up by the cops or had late night shows,” said Socrates Cruz, who realizes permits will be difficult to obtain. “We’re trying to be optimistic. We’re looking into that now.”
