An end to Taxachusetts?

Members on either side Question 3 have very different visions of a post-Election Day Massachusetts if the sales tax is cut to 3 percent.

Members on either side Question 3 have very different visions of a post-Election Day Massachusetts if the sales tax is cut to 3 percent.

Supporters say jobs will grow, businesses would increase their minimum wage and shoppers once fleeing to border states with less tax will come back to Massachusetts.

But opponents worry that if it passes, the state can expect a more than $2 billion revenue loss, job cuts to teachers and public safety and service reductions to the MBTA.

Stuart Spina of the T Riders Union said the tax cut would obliterate service.

“At least I can go to the package store and get something to drink and try to console myself,” he said, referring to Question 1, which would repeal the alcohol tax.
