A New York City man drowned in Bear Mountain's Hessian Lake on Thursday, less than two weeks after a Brooklyn high school student drowned in the same lake while on a school trip.
The 46-year-old man was visiting the park with his family and went swimming in the lake even though it is prohibited, The Journal News reports.
A witness told The Journal News that the man swam to the other side of the lake and as he tried to swim back, he drowned in the middle of the lake.
His body was recovered at about 6 p.m. The man's identity has not been released.
On June 24, 16-year-old Jean Fritz Pierre from International High School in Prospect Heights drowned in the same lake. Pierre had jumped from a rock into the water.
