Data-driven website Rentenna.com, a search and comparison tool for apartment hunters that condenses a vast range of rental unit metrics into a single score, has expanded into the Philadelphia market.
Originally based in New York City, the rental scoring startup uses algorithms to compare thousands of apartment listings with historical prices and industry trends, generating amenity and value scores on a scale of 1 to 99.
Rentenna also quantifies city-specific data such as food delivery scores, which tells renters how many restaurants will deliver to a specific address; block scores, which take into account the number of bars, restaurants and reported crime on a particular block; and school scores, which rate area public schools.
The numbers are intended to help apartment hunters quickly and efficiently sort through thousands of options to find their ideal abodes.
Rentenna has now rated more than 15,000 apartment buildings and 2,500 rental listings in Philadelphia.
"Listed in Businessweek as one of the best cities for new grads and one of my personal favorite cities, Philadelphia is an important city to our demographic," Rentenna co-founder Alicia Schwartz said in a statement.
"As a result, we has been working hard on adding inventory and new compelling data points. We are excited for Rentenna to become the new rental staple for Philadelphia renters."
Over the next year, the site plans to add even more Philly-centric data scores, including those related to code violations, transportation, green-friendly environments and entertainment.
Rentenna also released some interesting statistics on Philadelphia's hot neighborhoods and average rental rates.
According to the site, the top five most expensive neighborhoods in Philadelphia are:
1. Logan Square
2. University City
3. Rittenhouse Square
4. Society Hill
5. Old City
The most Philly neighborhoods users search for most often on Rentenna are Old City, Rittenhouse Square, Northern Liberties, Morrell Park and University City.
The average rental rates in Philadelphia are:
$850 for a studio
$1,275 for a one-bedroom unit
$1,675 for a two-bedroom unit
$2,350 for a three-bedroom unit
