Attleboro father charged with abusing infant son

An Attleboro father is under arrest for child abuse after his 4-month-old baby was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Ryan Ellis, 22, of Attleboro was arrested Monday afternoon and was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning in Attleboro District Court, according to the Attleboro Sun Chronicle. Ellis faces a charge of assault and battery on a child under 14 causing serious bodily injury, according to detectives.

Ellis called 911 about 11:15 a.m. Sunday for a medical emergency involving the boy, the article continues.The child was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence, where he was found to be suffering from "significant" leg and other injuries. He remains hospitalized.

Upon a more thorough medical examination, doctors concluded that the child had several injuries that had occurred prior to Sunday's incident.

The Department of Children and Families has assumed temporary custody of the child.
