Barney Frank marries in Newton

US Representative Barney Frank married his longtime partner, Jim Ready, Saturday in a ceremony officiated by Governor Deval Patrick, according to a report by the Boston Globe.

Frank is one of the first openly gay politicians in national office. His engagement was announced on The Hill earlier this year.

A spokesman for Frank told the Globe that Frank, 72, and Ready, 42, tied the knot at the Boston Mariott hotel in Newton around 6:30 p.m. in front of more than 300 friends, family and colleagues that included the likes of US Senator John F. Kerry and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Frank, a Democrat who has represented the 4th Congressional District in southeastern Mass., said in November that he will not seek reelection in 2013.
