Mayor Michael Bloomberg is trying to get the same ammunition off New York City streets that the Arizona gunman used in Saturday’s massacre.
Hizzoner said yesterday guns should never be in the hands of people like shooter Jared Loughner, who has an alleged history of drug use, and called for stricter gun controls.
“The system is broken,” Bloomberg said in an appearance with Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a group he co-chairs.
Ammunition similar to the kind Loughner used was found in November in Manhattan, in a stash of 87 weapons hid by Jonathan Shaw, 57 — who was indicted yesterday by the district attorney.
Long Island Rep. Peter King plans to introduce a bill making it illegal to carry a gun within 1,000 feet of Congress members.
