The city hopes to bolster Boston-area commuters into the holiday spirit by offering free live performances at eight MBTA stations Friday afternoon.
Artists include Blue Man Group, Tony Williams’ Urban Nutcracker, The Boston Pops and New Repertory Theatre. Performances will run about 10 minutes.
"Nothing sets the tone for your daily commute like the percussive beats of Blue Man Group. You can score an up close and personal look at one of the Blue Man Group's classic show segments, performed like never before," organizers said in a press release.
The performances are presented by ArtsBoston and the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau and celebrates the 10th Anniversary of the Mayor Thomas Menino's Holiday Spectacular, which offers 25,000 half-price tickets to more than 120 of the region’s most popular holiday performances, as well as dining deals and gift ideas.
The program runs November 1, 2013 through January 1, 2014.
