A city anti-violence worker will likely face a judge Tuesday in connection with the near fatal shooting of a woman last weekend.
Jeremy Harrison, 28, of Boston, faces gun charges during his arraignment Tuesday in court. He is the second street worker to be arrested in about a week.
Police responded to 6 Arbutus St., in Mattapan just after 10 a.m. Sunday for a report of a person shot. Inside, officers found a woman in her early 20s suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound, according to police. She was taken to Boston Medical Center.
Harrison was charged with illegal possession of a gun and failure to properly secure a gun with a minor present. He has not been charged with the shooting, but additional charges are pending the outcome of the investigation by detectives, police said.
City officials said Harrison is a street worker employed by the city for less than a year, according to the Herald. Harrison’s father told the Herald the shooting was an accident and happened when he was cleaning his gun.
Last week, Marcus Merritt, another anti-violence street worker employed by the Boston Foundation, pleaded not guilty to charges after police allegedly found him in a car with a prostitute, a gun and drugs.
