Three local professors were among the 24 people who were named fellows this week by the MacArthur Foundation.
Fellows are given a $625,000 no-strings-attached stipend over five years to allow “recipients to follow their own creative vision.”
Boston College professor Robin Flemming, a medieval historian, and MIT professors Dina Katabi, a computer scientist, and Sara Seager, an astrophysicist, were named as fellows for this year.
Each year the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation awards people from diverse fields the fellowships. Since the program was established in 1981, about 900 people have been named MacArthur Fellows.
