Boston Emergency Medical Services keeps the public up-to-date with all the calls it responds to, but when the agency informed their Facebook users on Sunday that an ambulance was en route to treat a person with “pink eye,” people weren’t happy.
Around 10 p.m. Sunday, Boston EMS Incidents wrote on its Facebook page that “A13 (was) En route to Nazing st, Roxbury for a person with ‘pink eye.'” It followed up the announcement by posting, “Could you rate your pinkness on a scale of 1-10, 1 being slightly pink and 10 being pink panther pink.”
Within an hour, dozens had weighed in to either poke fun at the questionable emergency or lash out over the perceived waste of time and tax dollars. The topic racked up 62 comments as of Monday afternoon.
“Nice waste of my tax dollar. $20 says they are on welfare and mass health. Why not call EMS, it’s a free taxi service for these types of people! DISGUSTING!!,” wrote Kristina Marie Capozzi on the public page.
“Are you serious…take your ass to the doctor instead of calling 911…WTH. What if someone REALLY had an emergency? They’re at this dumb ass call…This is where out tax dollars are going, to stupid calls…,” said Sandra Dusty Glasper.
Another user, John LaCroix, called it a “Cabulance call.”
Boston EMS said the call was not unusual.
