Boston fans make racist comments on Twitter after Joel Ward’s goal against Bruins

After Washington Capitals player Joel Ward scored the game-winning goal last night to end the playoff run of the Boston Bruins, fans took to Twitter to vent.

Some took it way too far.

Ward, who is black, was the subject of racist remarks from some Twitter users.

The website Black Sports Online saved some of the tweets. Many of the tweets were taken down by this morning and some Twitter users who were called out event went so far as to completely take down their profiles.

“so f—— mad. That f—— n—– scored,” tweeted @andrewdulac6.

News of the racist remarks has sparked a backlash against Boston and its sports fans.

“I can’t believe people call Philly fans the worst sports after reading all these racist tweets from Boston fans about Joel Ward,” tweeted @dfitz91.

More on the backlash against Boston can be found below. Warning: Some of the language may be offensive.
