There’s no turning back — fall is well on its way out, and winter is just a few chilly nights away.

According to the National Weather Service, Boston may be looking at its first snowfall on Tuesday, as a high pressure system is expected to build over the state Monday, followed by a freezing cold front that could bring rain and even some snow overnight to the area.

Temperatures overnight Monday may drop into the low 30s. No more than two inches of snow is possible, and it should only accumulate on grassy areas, according to the weather service.

Cold air will settle through Massachusetts until later in the week when temperatures will warm rapidly, according to forecasters.
