Two Emerson College graduates recently created a digital mix of songs by local artists to help comfort those still hurting from the Boston Marathon terror attacks and raise money for The One Fund.

The Boston Strong Music Project is a two disc compilation album that features 41 local musicians.

“We wanted to find a powerful and creative way to bring people together and support the families financially, but we wanted to make sure that people were taken care of emotionally,” said Isabel Thottam, 22, who along with Emily Smith, 23, released the songs through their startup venture, Hold On Another Day.

“It’s kind of incredible how much the Boston music community has spread the word. Our slogan is ‘Music is Power,’ and we really believe that so we want to be able to get it in the hands of as many people as possible,” Smith said.

Some of the artists wrote songs specifically for the project, while others donated their work. College radio station WERS-FM offered up recording studio space. So far, the mix has raised over $1,000 for The One Fund.

“To us, it’s less about raising a huge amount of money. At the very heart of this project is our hope that people will listen to it, and that it will provide some comfort,” Thottam said.

The mix was released on June 3, and is available for download at www.bundio.com for a minimum $1 donation.
