Boston University athlete faces sex assault charges

For the second time since December, a member of the Boston University Men’s Hockey team has been charged with sexual assault.

According to a spokesperson from the Suffolk District Attorney’s office, Max Nicastro, 21, is expected to be arraigned in Brighton District Court today to face charges stemming from an incident over the weekend.

Nicastro, a junior and defensive player for the BU Hockey team, was arrested by Boston University Police Sunday, according to university spokesman Colin Riley.

“[The university] took action immediately,” he said.

The hockey star was taken into custody on the university’s Charles River Campus around 6:30 a.m. and brought down to Boston Police District 14 in Brighton, where he was booked, according to reports.

BU Today reports that Nicastro was immediately suspended from the hockey team pending the investigation of the allegations.

BU Police Chief Thomas Robbins said that the sexual assault occurred on the school’s campus.

No other information about the alleged assault was immediately available.

On Dec. 11, BU hockey star and top-scorer Corey Trivino, 21, of Toronto, was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a female student in a dorm room.

Trivino, who was kicked off of the hockey team, pleaded not guilty to charges in court and was released on his own recognizance.
