An 11-year-old boy is recovering at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia after he was struck by a CSX freight train in Darby Borough Tuesday morning.
The accident happened about 7:45 a.m. at Main and 6th streets, the Delaware County Times reports.
The boy and a group of his friends were walking along the freight train tracks when he got too close to the passing train and was struck. Witnesses told police it appeared the train was moving faster than the 30 mph speed limit for trains in the area.
The train was traveling from North Bergen, N.J., to Jacksonville, Fla.
The boy was initially treated at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital before being transferred. He was last listed in stable condition, the paper reports.
