A martial arts instructor is scheduled to be arraigned Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting a young female student at his Braintree karate school.

Millis resident Kevin P. Carmichael, 40, faces a charge of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

In a statement, Braintree police said Carmichael was arrested Saturday after agreeing to be questioned by investigators at police headquarters.

Police learned about the alleged incident, said to have happened within “the last several months” at Carmichael’s Masters Self Defense Center, on Friday.

On the studio’s website, Carmichael said he opened the training center in 2003. He also teaches at the Braintree After School Enrichment, or B.A.S.E. program, and has led classes at more than 42 other after school programs. Police said there have been no other allegations against him.

The co-founder of Masters Self Defense Centers, Robert Nohelty, told the Boston Globe that the Braintree location is one of a half-dozen that use that name in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Each is independently owned and operated.
