A 9-year-old Bronx boy who was allegedly thrown from a roof and fell five stories has awakened from a coma. Police are now hoping the boy can help them understand the series of events that led to his fall.
Freddy Martin suffered a broken arm and leg, as well as internal bleeding, after 17-year-old Casmine Aska allegedly pushed him off of 1545 Nelson Ave. in Morris Heights on Feb. 1, the NY Post reports.
The boy told police that Aska showed up at his apartment, dragged him up to the roof and pushed him off, but he said he does not know why.
Aska was arrested and charged with attempted murder. He has told police different versions of what happened, saying Martin was walking along the ledge and fell, and then that his younger brother was “play fighting” with Martin when he fell.
Martin has been in a medically induced coma at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. In the last few days, he began breathing on his own and awoke from the coma.
