A man turned himself in to authorities Saturday after police said he beat second man with a hammer.
Michael Dilello, 43, turned himself over to police in the Bronx after investigators began looking for him on Friday.
Dilello's alleged victim, a 41-year-old man, left his Schuylerville home on Friday near midnight and told his wife that he was meeting a friend.
Three and a half hours later, however, the victim returned to his wife beaten, bruised and bleeding.
"I love you," the man said to his wife before he went unconscious. Paramedics rushed him to Jacobi Medical Center, where doctors listed him in critical condition.
Cops determined Dilello — a Pelham Bay resident — as the suspected "friend" and believed he assaulted the man with a hammer, leaving him with multiple lacerations to his head.
The reason for the assault remained unclear early Sunday, police said.
