Cab crashes into box truck in East Harlem, killing pedestrian

A 65-year-old pedestrian was killed midday Monday when a box truck jumped a curb in East Harlem.

A collision between a cab and a box truck in East Harlem on Monday afternoon resulted in the death of a 65-year-old woman, police reported.

Reports of the incident came in about 12:50 p.m., according to police; officers arrived at Park Avenue and East 102 Street to find local resident Olga Rivera, 65, unconscious in the street.

Emergency medical personnel rushed her to Mount Sinai Hospital, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicated that the taxi was traveling west on 102 Street when it collided with a box truck traveling south on Park Avenue.

The box truck jumped the curb and hit Rivera, police said.

The cab driver and two passengers were taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Police said the driver of the box truck stayed at the scene and was uninjured.

Police said they will continue their investigation into the incident.
