Massachusetts police are using Twitter.

The Cambridge Police Department plans to add more information to a popular new technology that alerts people about crime happening in real time.
Launched last month, the department’s real-time crime Twitter alerts include certain reported crimes, the time of the emergency dispatch and street location. Now the alerts will have a more precise location — at least down to the 100 block of a street, police said.
The upgrade was based on user feedback.
“After hearing from followers who raised concerns over street name locations being too broad and suggesting other minor edits, the department has updated its program to include more specific address information, down to the 100 block of a call,” police said in a statement.
The new program, the first in the region, has proven to be popular. In the month after it launched, Cambridge police said they earned about 1,500 new followers on their Twitter feed @CambridgePolice. As of Tuesday morning, the department had more than 5,000 followers.
