An NYPD officer who allegedly planned to kidnap, torture, cook and eat women is going on trial. Opening statements are expected to begin Monday afternoon.

Gilberto Valle, 28, faces life in prison if convicted. Prosecutors say emails and other online evidence show that Valle plotted to abduct women and eat them.

New court papers show that Valle’s wife left him more than a month before his arrest when she found out about his bizarre and deadly plans that included her, The Daily News reports.

The defense team is expected to say Valle’s ideas were purely fantasy, and he never planned to act on them.

Valle was arrested on a kidnapping conspiracy charge on Oct. 24. He plead not guilty in November.

Another man from New Jersey who allegedly schemed with Valle in a plot to kidnap a Manhattan woman is also awaiting trial.
