Car crashes into Cambridge storefront, man faces gun, drug charges

A Cambridge man who crashed his car into a Massachusetts Avenue storefront over the weekend and then tried to back it out of the store and take off was charged by police with gun and drug possession.

Jamie Knight was allegedly driving the car when it crashed into the glass windows of BoConcept, a furniture store, at about 3:40 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Video of the crash was caught on the store’s surveillance camera. It shows the car coming across Massachusetts Avenue at an angle and crashing into the store. It also shows the driver get out of the car and then come back to it a few moments later and back out of the store as people watch. Police eventually show up and stop the car just in front of the store.

One person was taken to a hospital for minor injuries after Knight allegedly hit another car while backing out of the store, police said.

Cambridge police said that after Knight got out of the car, a gun fell to the ground. Also, while being booked, police said they found drugs hidden on him.

Knight was charged with operating to endanger, illegal possession of a gun and ammunition and drug possession with intent to distribute. He is due to be arraigned on Tuesday.
