Cheyney University under control after social media threat from student

Cheyney University is under control after an angry student posted a threatening message on Twitter.

The historically black university located in Delaware County alerted students shortly after 9 a.m. on its website that a threat against the school has been posted on social media. It allegedly referenced a “re-enactment of Columbine and Virginia Tech at Cheyney University,” according to the Delaware County Daily Times.

The university said the message came from a male student and that administration plans to speak with him. University spokesman Pam Carter could not say if the university with seek to press charges.

“We’re trying to see what’s on his mind,” Carter said.

The Daily Times reported that the student was upset over parking tickets that affected his enrollment status.

Reports of the institution being on lockdown were unfounded, Carter said, but local police were called in to screen incoming cars and stationed around campus.
