Chimney tumble kills teen

A 15-year-old boy fell down a chimney chute and died on Tuesday, just blocks away from his Mill Basin home.

Nicholas Gryak, a sophomore, was hanging out on the roof of Roy H. Mann Junior High School with friends when the accident occurred at about 10 p.m. Tuesday night, police said.

He fell five stories before hitting the ground and his friends rushed off the roof to call 911, according to the Daily News.

Police were called to the scene at 11 p.m. and found Gryak’s body in the basement boiler room at the bottom of the shaft.

Hundreds of teens arrived at the scene to mourn the passing of their friend, who was a student at nearby James Madison High School Brooklyn.

Within just 24 hours of the news of his death, more than 2,000 people had left messages on a Facebook page memorial that reads “R.I.P Nick Gryak, gone but never forgotten, 8.10.11”
