Christie kills ARC tunnel

Gov. Chris Christie on Thursday killed plans to build the Access to the Region’s Core tunnel under the Hudson River, which was to add rail lines for Amtrak and NJ Transit into Penn Station. Christie said the $8.7 billion tunnel could cost up to $15 billion with overruns. “ARC was desperately needed by the residents of New Jersey who now face limited access to the most lucrative job market in the nation and more congested roadways,” said Bob Yaro, president of Regional Plan Association.
