Citi Bike riders have pedaled over 10 million miles since the program began.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Transportation Commissioner Janette Sahik-Khan announced the new data Friday.
They say nearly half a million people have purchased Citi Bike passes of some kind, putting the average number of rides per day at 35,000 over the last three months.
In the five months since the program began, Citi Bikers have taken more than 5 million trips, the equivalent of the populations of 28 states, and more than two times the annual ridership of D.C.'s bike share system, which is the nation's largest. It boasted 1 million more riders than visitors to the Empire State Building in an entire year, and the same number as the National History Museum.
