City Council candidate Thomas Lopez-Pierre goes on name-calling rant

City Council candidate Thomas Lopez-Pierre, who is running for an uptown Manhattan seat, sent out a racially charged email that lambasted one of his opponent’s supporters as “an Uncle Tom n***** b****.”

The email, first obtained by Politicker.com, attacked real estate developer Brian Benjamin for supporting Mark Levine in the race.

“To think there are about eight other candidates in this race that are Black and Hispanic and you decided to pick Mark Levine the only White/Jewish guy in the race to raise money for,” Lopez-Pierre wrote.

In a follow-up interview with Metro, Lopez-Pierre stood by his words, saying Benjamin was “the poster child for gentrification” and “a traitor to his race.”

“He’s a low-life real estate developer who’s been pimping out the black and Latino community for profit,” Lopez-Pierre said.

During a Spanish-language interview with NY1, Levine called the email “horrifying” and “unacceptable in the 21st Century.”

The City Council district in question is 47 percent Hispanic, 24 percent white, 20 percent black and 6 percent Asian.
