Customs authorities found more than 7 pounds of cocaine hidden inside frozen goat meat at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection stopped Yudishtir Maharaj as he arrived at the airport from Port of Spain, Trinidad, on March 20.

Officers found three white plastic bags with frozen ground meat in his luggage, each with an added surprise.

Upon probing, officers said they found white powder that allegedly tested positive for cocaine.

The bricks, weighing a total of 7.35 pounds, were confiscated, and Maharaj was turned over to Homeland Security.

Maharaj faces federal narcotics smuggling charges and prosecution by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

A Trinidadian news website reported on Friday that court documents said Maharaj did not know he was carrying the cocaine, which hasan estimated street value of $1.2 million to $1.8 million.

“This latest seizure demonstrates the vigilance of our CBP officers and their excellence in detecting those who would try to smuggle these illegal substances,” said Robert Perez, field operations director for U.S. Customs in New York.
