With the end of winter comes another reminder that the weather’s finally turned. Coney Island’s Luna Park opens for the new season this weekend.

“As we begin another season at Luna Park this weekend, we look forward to an exciting year ahead of us,” said Alberto Zamperla, president of Zamperla Group, which operates the South Brooklyn amusement park.

The thousands of New Yorkers who make their way down to Coney Island every year can begin lining up for the 87-year-old Cyclone roller coaster.

The classic wooden-tracked ride underwent repairs over the last few months and will get an egg-cream christening on 11:45 a.m. Sunday before it opens up for $6 rides through the rest of the day.

Luna Park’s usual fare will also be available to its patrons, including eighteen other attractions such the Electro Spin and Lynn’s Trapeze swing ride.

New Yorkers looking for the next theme-park thrill can also expect Luna Park’s latest addition to open up over Memorial Day weekend. A vertical lift, steel roller coaster, the Thunderbolt will be the region’s first custom ride since the Cyclone’s own debut in 1927.

“We have a lot of new additions and attractions that will excite visitors from around the globe,” Zamperla added.
