A Jamaica Plain father was arrested on drug charges Sunday after he allegedly left his 3-month-old child in the car and police were called.
Police were called to Greenville Street in Roxbury at about 6 p.m. Sunday after a passerby saw a baby in a car with no one around. Police said that officers saw that the windows were only slightly cracked and the child was unattended. As officers tried to get into the car the baby's father, Carlos Maldonado, showed up.
He told police that he had gone to a nearby house to buy cologne. Police said he was acting nervous and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, so they frisked him. That's when officers allegedly found crack cocaine, marijuana and a knife on him.
Maldonado was arrested on drug and weapons charges. The child was treated by emergency workers and taken to a hospital to be checked out. Its mother was notified.
