Cops help deliver baby on roadside

Two state troopers helped deliver a baby on the side of a Cambridge road when a couple was trapped in traffic on the way to the hospital yesterday morning.

An expectant Burlington father driving his pregnant wife to Mount Auburn Hospital became frantic when Route 2 backed up with heavy traffic, according to police reports.

The soon-to-be-dad called police, and officers told the man to pull over on the side of the highway.

Police were sent to the scene and located the couple’s silver Volkswagen Passat near Huron and Concord Avenues.

While the father coached his wife, Troopers Frank Parker and John Arone helped deliver the baby girl, Gabrielle, who was born around 8 a.m.

An ambulance arrived shortly after and transported the couple and their new baby to Mount Auburn Hospital.
