Cops probe infant death

Police are investigating the mysterious death of an infant who died after she was found in a car at a Dorchester fast-food restaurant this weekend.

Officers were called to the KFC at 695 Columbia Road just before 1 a.m. Saturday, according to police.

When the officers arrived, emergency medical technicians were already assisting a baby girl who was in a car at the restaurant’s parking lot. The girl was about 6 months old, police said.

She was taken to Boston Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

Police said there were no visible signs of trauma to the girl, but homicide investigators are examining the death. Officers are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine exactly how the girl died.

During their investigation, police said they learned that the girl’s mother was also in the car when emergency responders first arrived.

There have been no arrests or charges filed as of yesterday afternoon, police said.

“We’re still waiting on a couple of things including the autopsy results,” said Officer Nicole Grant, a department spokeswoman.

The KFC was open yesterday. There was no indication of the death from this weekend.
