A Pennsauken, N.J., woman is in trouble with the law after she allegedly concocted a fundraising scheme that had her son battling leukemia.
Susan Stillwaggon, 35, told family, friends and her son the healthy boy, who is in elementary school, was fighting cancer, CBS Philly reports. She accepted money from sympathetic friends who had raised the funds through bake sales, jewelry sales and special events.
Pennsauken police began investigating Stillwaggon's claims after receiving tips from another police department and from her son's school, where officials sensed something didn't seem right, according to CBS Philly.
Stillwaggon is charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and using a juvenile to commit a crime and third-degree theft by deception and forgery.
