Corbett to ‘hit ground running’

Tom Corbett, the Republican state attorney general who fashioned himself as a Chris Christie-type reformer, will succeed Ed Rendell as governor of Pennsylvania. The Department of State put him ahead of Allegheny County executive Dan Onorato for good at 9:32 p.m., with 34.77 percent of the vote counted.

In an increasingly testy campaign, Onorato hoped to turn voters against Corbett by hammering away at comments about the unemployed not seeking jobs, and indicating he wanted the Philadelphia voter turnout kept less than 50 percent.

As of 10:20 p.m., Onorato hadn’t conceded. He trailed by about 190,000 votes at that point.
