After responding to multiple Craigslist advertisements to sell his iPhone 5, a 33-year-old Burlington County man is now facing robbery charges.
Marcell T. Spears, of the 100 block of Garland Avenue in Willingboro, was charged by Cherry Hill police for showing up to two buyer's homes and sticking a shotgun in their face, police said today.
Police said one buyer provided Spears with his home address, on Valleybrook Road, and setup a meeting on July 1 at 9 p.m.
When the buyer met Spears outside his home to complete the transaction, Spears pointed a rifle at the man's face and stole his $200 and fled into a waiting car.
Police found that a similar robbery occurred one hour before in Moorsetown. Spears was identified following this investigation and was charged with both incidents on July 11 with robbery, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
His bail was set at $100,000 cash.
Police warned online buyers to conduct in-person transactions in public places, and if possible, bring backup. Also, they warned, try and arrive early and record any information, such as license plate number or physical appearance as a precaution.
