Cuts put LGBTQ youths at risk

Runaway teens will now have fewer city-sponsored places to escape the street.

Last week, the city announced cuts in Runaway and Homeless Youth Services. The reductions mean fewer drop-in programs and crisis centers.

Last night, the Department of Youth and Community Development and Manhattan Borough’s President Scott Stringer sponsored a forum to protect LGBTQ youths, who become homeless after fleeing family situations where they feel rejected.

“We cannot balance the budget on the backs of our city’s most vulnerable youth,” Stringer said.
