Mayor Bill de Blasio came to the defense of LaGuardia Airport after Vice President Joe Biden compared the gateway to "some Third World country."
While the mayor said he respected Biden, de Blasio said that the remark was not Biden's "finest moment."
"As a proud New Yorker, I didn't like that comment and I think it was not the right way to talk about it," de Blasio said Friday.
The mayor admitted LaGuardia, which is ranked one of the worst airports in the country, has its problems.
"LaGuardia obviously needs an upgrade," de Blasio said. "But, that being said, the airport manages an extraordinary amount of traffic and the people that work there make it work under very difficult circumstances."
Over 25 million people passed through LaGuardia in 2012, according to the Port Authority.
