Self-described "progressive" New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio will face faux conservative Stephen Colbert this week.

De Blasio will make his first appearance on "The Colbert Report" Wednesday, Comedy Central announced.

Monday afternoon, Colbert tweeted at de Blasio, demanding the mayor to "stop dodging" him. De Blasio replied and asked if Wednesday was a good day.

A de Blasio spokesman said the interview was arranged before the Twitter exchange.

Following the Democratic mayoral primary last September, Colbert declared de Blasio was "a man so liberal, he won the gay vote against a lesbian," referring to former City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

In February, the mayor went on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," where he ate pizza with a fork and talked about recent snowstorms.

"The Colbert Report" airs after "The Daily Show" at 11:30 p.m.
