Police in Norwood are searching for clues after a dead body was found behind an area school.

On Wednesday, a neighbor discovered the body in the rear of the Coakley Middle School, according to Norwood police. It appeared to be that of an adult male, who had suffered significant trauma.

“Shortly after 4:30 today, Norwood Police received a call from one of the neighbors who was exercising a dog here in the playground at the Coakley School,” Norwood County District Attorney William Morrissey said during a press conference on Wednesday evening. “He believed he came upon what were human remains and called the police.”

Morrissey said the body’s condition is so severe that further identification has yet to be determined.

“It appears to be a male. Not a young person, but, again, don’t hold me to that,” he continued. “I can’t tell you, you know, Caucasian, Indian…I can’t give you any of that information because that’s still being processed.”

Morrissey made it clear that there is no indication that anything happened at the school, and the incidentwill not disturb the daily activities of students.School was back in session as normal on Thursday morning.

This case is being investigated by the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office and the Norwood Police, with assistance by the Massachusetts State Police.

Norwood Police school resource officers will be on scene at the Coakley School to monitor the situation on Thursday.
