Today is the deadline for property owners to file a first-level appeal if they are dissatisfied with their new property-tax assessment.
For those who believe their house overvalued or incorrect, you can apply for the appeal with the Office of Property Assessment click here. Residents technically have 30 days to appeal after the date the assessment is issued, so if it hasn't quite been 30 days, you can file late.
Property owners can also file a formal appeal with the Board of Revision of Taxes, but they must do so by Oct. 7. To file a formal appeal, click here.
Under Mayor Michael Nutter’s AVI plan, properties will be assessed and taxed based on their true market value, rather than a predefined percentage. The OPA is working to reassess all of the city’s 579,000 properties.
