Transit authorities reported the unrelated deaths of two women who were struck and killed in Manhattan's subway system over the weekend.
On Saturday, Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials reported that a woman was struck by a northbound E train at the Lexington/East 53 Street station.
Emergency workers responded to the Midtown Manhattan platform about noon; MTA officials said the woman died at the scene.
The circumstances of the fatal incident have not yet been determined, authorities said.
Transit officials said another woman was struck in the head by a northbound 6 train on Saturday.
The train hit the woman as it entered the Astor Place station about 4 p.m. At the time, police said they believed she had been leaning over the platform's edge.
MTA officials said she was rushed to Beth Israel Medical Center in critical condition, but later died.
Both cases remain under investigation by police and transit officials.
