A Delaware teen was arrested Thursday after he brought an unloaded handgun to his middle school in Wilmington.
The gun was discovered in the P.S. duPont Middle School student's backpack after a fellow student he had shown it alerted a teacher around 9:50 a.m., The News Journal of Wilmington reports.
The boy did not make any threats against students or staff at the school, the paper reports, and apparently believed the weapon was a BB gun.
The student was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and possession of a firearm in a safe school zone. He also faces expulsion from the school.
