A clean-up and investigation is underway in New Bedford today after a diesel spill near Fish Island Bridge.
According to a Boston Globe report, a marine safety officer on the New Bedford Fire Department noticed a sheen on the water near Pier 3 around 7 a.m.
A boom has been installed to contain it, and a contractor has been hired to clean up the spill, which officials described as a "retrievable quantity."
A New Bedford fire officials told the Globe that the cause of the spill is still under investigation, and that as of 9 a.m. respondents were still trying to get the scene under control.
A spokesman for MassDEP said the source of the spill had not been located as of Thursday morning.
